What is the NDIS?

The NDIS stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme is administered by National Disability Insurance Scheme. It is a scheme introduced by the Australian government with an aim to support people with permanent and significant disabilities to attain their goals in life. The scheme helps people with disability in several ways. Some of the support provided by the NDIS includes:

  • Access mainstream services including health, housing, and education.
  • Access community activities including libraries, and sporting clubs.
  • Maintain informal support with family, friends, and relatives.

NDIS Eligibility Criteria

Following are the eligibility criteria that need to be fulfilled in order to access the NDIS.

  • Your age should be between 0-65 years at the time of accessing the scheme for the first time.
  • You should be an Australian citizen, or Permanent Visa and Protected Special Category Visa holder
  • You are living in an area where NDIS is already implemented 
  • You require constant support because of your permanent and significant disability that
  • Minimized your ability to participate in activities or perform actions and tasks without support, and
  • Affected your social and economic participation.

What Support Will NDIS Fund?

The different types of support NDIS funds to participants with disability include the following:

  • Daily Personal Activities
  • Therapeutics Support
  • Assistance with household activities that enable participants to maintain their living environment and enhance their sense of independence.
  • Assistance at the workplace to enable participants to successfully get or keep employment in the open or support labour market,
  • Home Modifications
  • Vehicle Modifications
  • Mobility Equipment
